CCTV installation & repair guide

CCTV installation, repair and maintenance

A CCTV system is only useful if it is recording when something happens. Loose connectors, a full or failing hard disk, a camera knocked out of angle or a power supply that has died quietly can leave you with no footage exactly when you need it. We install new systems properly and keep existing ones recording reliably — for homes, shops, offices, clinics and warehouses.

What we do

  • New installation — dome and bullet cameras, HD (analogue) and IP systems, DVR/NVR set-up, cabling and power
  • Camera repair — no video, blurry or dark image, night vision (IR) not working, flickering picture
  • DVR/NVR repair — not booting, not recording, hard disk errors, "video loss" on channels
  • Mobile viewing set-up — watch live and recorded footage on your phone, securely
  • Cabling and power — replacing damaged cable, BNC/RJ45 connectors and power supplies
  • Health check and servicing — lens cleaning, angle adjustment, storage and backup checks

Not sure what you need? Book a visit and the technician will survey the site, suggest camera positions and quote before any work begins.

What happens during an installation

  1. Site survey: entry points, blind spots, lighting and cable routes are planned with you.
  2. Cameras are mounted at the agreed positions and angles.
  3. Cables are routed neatly through conduit or casing where possible.
  4. The DVR/NVR is configured: recording schedule, motion detection, date and time.
  5. Mobile viewing is set up on your phone with a strong password.
  6. We walk you through viewing live video, playback and exporting a clip.

How much storage do you need?

Storage depends on the number of cameras, resolution and recording mode. As a rough guide, four 2 MP cameras recording continuously need about 1 TB for 10–15 days of footage. Motion-based recording stretches that much further. The technician will size the hard disk to the number of days you want to keep.

Keep your system recording

  • Check playback once a week — a system can show live video yet fail to record.
  • Wipe camera lenses every few months; dust and cobwebs ruin night vision.
  • Protect the DVR/NVR with a UPS so power cuts don't corrupt the disk.
  • Change the default password and never share the admin login.
  • Replace the hard disk every 3–4 years, as it runs non-stop.

We work with Hikvision, CP Plus, Dahua, Godrej, Honeywell, Prama and most other brands.

Help

CCTV service FAQs

How many cameras do I need?

Most homes need 2–4 cameras to cover the entrance, parking and back door. Shops and offices typically need 4–8. The technician surveys the site and recommends positions before you commit.

Can I watch my cameras on my phone?

Yes. We set up the manufacturer's app so you can view live and recorded footage from anywhere with internet, protected by a strong password.

How many days of recording will I get?

It depends on the number of cameras, resolution and hard-disk size. As a guide, four 2 MP cameras recording continuously fill about 1 TB in 10–15 days. Motion-based recording lasts much longer.

Will CCTV work during a power cut?

Only if the cameras and DVR/NVR are on a UPS or inverter. We recommend a UPS for the recorder so power cuts don't corrupt the hard disk.

Do you repair cameras installed by someone else?

Yes. We diagnose and repair cameras, DVRs and NVRs from Hikvision, CP Plus, Dahua and most other brands, whoever installed them.

Are the cameras and cables included in the installation price?

The installation price covers labour, mounting and configuration. Cameras, DVR/NVR, hard disk, cable and accessories are quoted separately — or you can provide your own equipment.
