CCTV camera installation & repair near you — a complete guide

Searching for CCTV camera installation near me usually starts after something happens — a theft in the neighbourhood, a dispute at the shop counter, or simply the worry of leaving parents alone at home. The right system gives you clear footage when you need it and peace of mind the rest of the time. The wrong one gives you blurry pictures, an empty hard disk and an app that never opens. This guide explains what matters, so you can choose with confidence and know what to expect from a professional CCTV technician.

Which CCTV camera is best for home?

For most independent houses, four cameras are a sensible start: one at the main gate, one covering parking, one at the front door and one at the back or side lane. Bullet cameras suit outdoor walls and gates because they are visible, deter intruders and usually see further; dome cameras suit porches, verandahs and indoor spaces because they are compact and harder to knock out of position. For flats, an indoor WiFi camera facing the main door or a video door phone is often all you need.

Resolution matters less than placement. A 2 MP (1080p) camera mounted at the right height and angle beats a 5 MP camera pointed into a street light. Choose 4–5 MP where you need to identify faces or read number plates from a distance — gates, parking and shop entrances. And look for colour night vision: it shows the colour of clothes and vehicles at night, which makes footage far more useful than black-and-white infrared.

HD (DVR) vs IP (NVR) vs WiFi vs 4G — what's the difference?

  • HD analogue cameras with a DVR are economical and dependable for homes and small shops. Each camera has a coaxial video cable and a power connection.
  • IP cameras with an NVR give sharper video and carry power and data on one network cable (PoE). They are easier to expand and the better choice for offices, hospitals, schools, hotels and larger houses.
  • WiFi CCTV cameras are quick to install for one or two indoor positions and often include two-way talk and motion alerts — but they depend on a strong, stable router signal.
  • 4G CCTV cameras take a SIM card and stream to your phone without broadband — ideal for farmhouses, plots, construction sites and village homes. A solar CCTV camera adds a panel and battery for places with no power point at all.

How many days of recording will I get?

Storage depends on the number of cameras, resolution, compression and whether you record continuously or only on motion. As a rule of thumb, four 2 MP cameras recording 24×7 fill about 1 TB in 10–15 days; motion recording lasts much longer. Use our recording-days calculator to estimate your own setup, and always use a surveillance-grade hard disk — ordinary desktop disks are not built to write all day.

CCTV camera price — what decides the total cost?

There is no single "CCTV camera price". The total depends on the number of cameras, their type and resolution, the recorder's channels, the hard-disk size, the length and routing of cable, and whether you need a UPS for power backup. We keep it transparent: labour for each service is a fixed price shown on our services and prices page before you book, and cameras, recorders and accessories are quoted in writing on site — or you can use your own equipment. Nothing is fitted without your approval.

Common CCTV problems we fix every day

  • DVR not recording or showing "HDD error" — usually a hard disk corrupted by power cuts, or one that has reached the end of its life.
  • No video on one camera — a loose BNC or RJ45 connector, a failed power adaptor or water in a junction box.
  • Night vision not working or blurry at night — failed IR LEDs, a dirty lens or cobwebs reflecting the infrared light.
  • CCTV not showing on mobile — the recorder lost its internet connection after a router change, or the app login changed.
  • Picture flickering or rolling lines — a weak power supply, a damaged cable or interference from electrical wiring.

Book a camera repair or DVR/NVR repair and the technician will diagnose the fault on site, explain the fix and the price, and only then start work. We repair Hikvision, CP Plus, Dahua and other major brands, whoever installed them.

What a professional CCTV installation includes

  1. Site survey — camera positions, heights and angles agreed with you; recorder location and power backup planned.
  2. Neat cabling — conduit or casing, weather-proof junction boxes, sealed connectors and drip loops outdoors.
  3. Recorder set-up — recording schedule, motion detection, date and time, and overwrite settings so it never stops when the disk is full.
  4. Security — default passwords replaced, secure app access, firmware updated where fixes are available.
  5. Testing and handover — picture, focus and night vision checked on every camera; live view and playback tested on your phone; how to save a clip shown to you.

Keep your CCTV recording — simple maintenance tips

  • Wipe camera lenses every few months; dust and cobwebs ruin night vision.
  • Put the DVR/NVR on a UPS or inverter line so power cuts don't corrupt the hard disk.
  • Check playback once a month — if you can't find yesterday's footage, something needs attention.
  • Book a CCTV health check before the monsoon to seal connectors and re-aim cameras.

Help

CCTV questions, answered

How many cameras do I need?

Most homes need 2–4 cameras to cover the entrance, parking and back door. Shops and offices typically need 4–8. The technician surveys the site and recommends positions before you commit.

Can I watch my cameras on my phone?

Yes. We set up the manufacturer's app so you can view live and recorded footage from anywhere with internet, protected by a strong password.

How many days of recording will I get?

It depends on the number of cameras, resolution and hard-disk size. As a guide, four 2 MP cameras recording continuously fill about 1 TB in 10–15 days. Motion-based recording lasts much longer.

Will CCTV work during a power cut?

Only if the cameras and DVR/NVR are on a UPS or inverter. We recommend a UPS for the recorder so power cuts don't corrupt the hard disk.

Do you repair cameras installed by someone else?

Yes. We diagnose and repair cameras, DVRs and NVRs from Hikvision, CP Plus, Dahua and most other brands, whoever installed them.

Are the cameras and cables included in the installation price?

The installation price covers labour, mounting and configuration. Cameras, DVR/NVR, hard disk, cable and accessories are quoted separately — or you can provide your own equipment.
